Sunset Cliffs Engagement Photographer

One of my favorite for engagement session locations is the Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, California. Even though I prefer more secluded locations, the cliffs is one of my exceptions. It's incredibly busy, especially at sunset. However, there are nooks you can find or creative ways to frame the shot to make it feel like it's perfectly secluded.

Chelsey and Hayden and I spent an afternoon wandering around the cliffs and soaking up every ounce of the sunset that night. They had "warned" me before the session that they're super awkward and they don't know how to pose.

I always remind my clients that not one couple in my portfolio is a professional model. I prefer to work with those who think they're awkward, because in reality we all feel a little awkward in front of the camera.

My job is to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible, to reassure you as we go, and prove to you how dang cute you are with the ending gallery. I'm not here to make you look like anyone else on my instagram or anyone else's. I want you to look at your gallery of photos and say, "These are so US!" and absolutely love them.

I think a huge part in that is my way of posing. I give guidance rather than strict posing. For example, I'll say simply say: "Give each other a great big hug." However they naturally fall into that pose is what I want them to do. If I need variety or I need to have them pivot, move an arm, etc, I will suggest doing so AFTER capturing how they naturally embrace. Usually, the natural embrace turns out to be a better shot anyway because it's more genuine.
