When Lauren and Skyler reached out to us for their Ruby Beach elopement, we were all hands on deck! We had three (yes, three) weeks to plan the elopement of their dreams. They knew for sure they wanted me to photograph their day and wanted Nathan to do videography. So they were more than willing to work around our availability. It makes me so happy when couples are in love with our work, and make us their non-negotiable vendors. Thankfully we were able to find a date that worked for all of us, and then we got to planning!
As you can see, Lauren and Skyler's Ruby Beach elopement was very intimate. They only wanted them and their kiddos present, plus Lauren's BFF to officiate. They knew they wanted their elopement along the Washington Coast, which is how we ended up at Ruby Beach. Not only do you get amazing views of the water. But the trees and greenery also made for some rad photos. I love how here in the PNW, you have locations that have so much diversity. Where you can walk a few hundred feet and have completely different vibe.
Planning their Ruby Beach Elopement
Although the sun wasn't present and accounted for, the gloomy aesthetic definitely did not disappoint! This is one of the reasons why you should hire an experienced photographer. One that has experience working in all kinds of lighting conditions. Especially in the PNW, you never know how the weather is going to switch up on you.
Typically, when planning elopements for my couples, I'll scout out a few locations beforehand to give them suggestions. With Lauren and Skyler, they really wanted somewhere that truly meant something to them personally. So they did most of the location scouting on their own, and that's how we ended up at Ruby Beach. From there, they let us choose the best spots for lighting and angle purposes. I fully support the team effort that was put into planning out this elopement!
After their intimate ceremony, we explored a little bit and took some portraits at different spots on the beach. We even found a little turnout on the side of the road that was a perfect spot for photos. It was so heartwarming to photograph Lauren and Skyler's new little family together. This elopement was truly one of my favorites, simply because this couple wanted their day to be so uniquely them, and wanted it to be meaningful to their love story.
