Seattle Courthouse Wedding Photographer

So many pandemic weddings had to change plans last minute to accommodate the rules. Some down sized, some postponed, and some decided “why don’t we just get married at the courthouse!” A Seattle courthouse wedding can be just as romantic (and leaves a lot of the stress out of the way). It’s not for everyone, but for Jenn and Dave, it was perfect and allowed them to have their roller rink reception the following day.

We spent the morning getting ready at the Lotte Hotel downtown and did the first look right outside the hotel. Perks to a downtown city wedding are getting to play with all the architecture. In the image of Jenn walking up the steps to Dave during the first look, the stairs act as a leading line to Dave. I scope out spaces that have good light, but seeking angles and framing with nature or architecture can add a little bit of spice and elevate a photo.

Flexibility during Seattle courthouse weddings

I tell my couples to not go into courthouse elopements with timing expectations. The time you get in depends on other appointments going on that day as well as which Judge you’re paired with for your ceremony. Anytime you choose to have a courthouse wedding, you’ll need to bring your “go with the flow” attitude. And so will I! I’ve done my fair share of them and know the ropes, so don’t worry, I’ve got your back. Your day will be just as special and sweet as a bigger wedding day, trust me!

Jenn wore her mother’s dress—a little reimagined—and veil which added to her vintage inspired look. Love bringing these personal additions to a wedding day.

Since we weren’t sure how much time we’d have at their reception the next day, we got a bunch of family photos and couples portraits done on the rooftop in Seattle. That way, they would have more time to chat with everyone and mingle. Oh, and also, skate!

Roller rink reception after the courthouse elopement

You might have already seen their roller rink reception blog, but if you haven’t, go take a look! Jenn and Dave invited friends and family to the roller rink the day after their wedding for a little reception get-together. It had vintage and retro inspired décor, neon lights, and a disco ball! I grabbed some Super 8mm footage of it too! All the makings for an amazing and unique reception.
