Hair and Makeup Artist Seattle Beauty Boss
My spotlight today is highlighting the talented hair and makeup artist Seattle Beauty Boss, Lauren!
Lauren is always my first referral for my local Seattle couples looking for a hair and makeup artist. One of my favorite services she offers is being fully mobile. She can come to your home or venue for all of your hair and makeup needs!
I actually hired her myself for a recent anniversary session. For someone like me, who basically never wears a full face of makeup, she made me feel glam and flawless but not too over-the-top. I felt like an absolute goddess.

Was there one moment when it dawned on you that you should be a hair and makeup artist?
Yes, my aunt was a beautician and I would go to her shop and watch the transformations and how the clients would light up when they looked in the mirror. I was about 10 years old and was in awe. In that moment, I knew that this was something I wanted to do.
How did you get started? Did you have formal training?
I learned a lot from my aunt. She taught me how to color and highlight hair. I started going to Sally’s Beauty Supply and would practice on friends in high school.
After I graduated high school, I went to Beauty School “Paul Mitchell of Dallas” and graduated 2008 with my cosmetology license. Then, I continued with additional education classes and learned from veterans in the industry.

How long have you been in the wedding industry?
I’ve been in the Beauty Industry for the past 12 years. I've been working in the wedding industry for the past 5 years.
Can you share for us a bit of your journey since you started your business?
I had an idea of making beauty mobile for the convenience of the busy person who can't find time for the full salon experience.
In 2016, I started researching if that was actually a thing here in the PNW. Through my search, I stumbled upon an app called “Tousled.” I wanted to see how it worked and also how I could be different from it. So, I applied and started working with that platform. The program allows you to still be your own boss/independent contractor, so it was awesome for me. I still work with that platform today.
From there, I started writing down all my ideas. I bought a logo, domain, created a formal LLC, and was officially open for business. I was intentional in my networking and reaching out to collaborate with other vendors in the industry. Always making sure I had my ideal client in mind.
I kept thinking to myself: What would I want as a client? How could I market that? Where I would seek to buy it?
That’s when I thought: Beauty is a luxury that should be attainable by all.
This is when I started a Yelp and Google page and asked every client to leave me a review. Some do and some don’t which is fine - but I feel it's important to ask. I’d say 50% of my clients comes from Yelp. I also work with hotels in downtown Seattle (pre-Covid).
I have so much more to share! Maybe we can do an Instagram live at a later date. Let’s just say, I’m so proud of how fast my business took off and how busy I’ve been.
In what ways have you seen the wedding industry shift in light of 2020?
I've had a lot of rescheduled weddings and LOTS OF ELOPMENTS! For me, it's pretty much the same. Except now, I wear a mask and sanitize after everything I touch. I make sure that there are a limited amount of people in the room at a time. But still - love fills the air.
I must say, weddings usually fill up my summers but I’ve still been busy with other occasions. My schedule has been filled with family, maternity, boudoir, branding photo’s and videography sessions. I work with some amazing photographers and videographers!
Is Seattle Beauty Boss just you, or do you have a team?
I use to have a team for large parties. Since large parties aren’t currently allowed due to Covid, it’s just me. I have something new and exciting in the works that hopefully I will be able to build a team again - soon!

How would you describe your vibe?
Positive vibes all the way! I like to read the room and see what the clients needs are. Whether that be music to lighten the mood, small chat to make them feel seen, heard and understood. Or just time for them to feel special, uplifted, pampered, and relaxed. If they just want to zen out in peace, I can do that too.
Who or what inspires you?
Rags to riches stories and entrepreneurs like Mrs. C.J. Walker, Alli Webb, Sara Blakely, and Marcia Kilgore. As well as people that are the best at their craft like Kevyn Aucoin, Michael Jordan, and other innovators.
Where can couples find the services you provide?
You can see my service page with all the details here. I offer blowouts, makeup, and spray tans. I do dry styling, updos, airbrush makeup, and Cezanne (a formaldehyde-free keratin smoothing treatment).

Do you offer trails?
I would love to meet you before your nuptials and do a trial run to make sure you are 100% satisfied (blushing bride). We get it perfect for you for the day of the wedding.
Trials are al a cart and same price as it would be day-of. This service is recommended but not required. We can also do a phone/Skype consultation. Or, you can simply send me a picture of yourself and your hair/makeup inspirations.
Regardless of what you decide, I promise to make you feel relaxed, pampered, and beautiful.
What are your service areas?
I travel all over the PNW!
What are some tips that a bride or groom should take note on when it comes to hair or skincare prior to their wedding day?
If you are plan to get a facial the day of or before your wedding, make sure to do it a month in advance! It's important to do this first so you know how your skin will react. Some facials can detox the skin, pulling out impurities and cause pimples or skin reactions. Also, have a good skincare regimen and don’t forget to moisturize!!
Do you have a favorite moment from a wedding day you would like to share?
I’ve had the pleasure of working with the BEST brides a girl could ask for. Each one is very special to me. There aren’t a lot of occupations where you touch people - let alone face and hair. I'm all up close and personal and I love it! Haha
Anything else you would like to add?
I’d like to say thank you for taking the time to spotlight me as one of your preferred vendors. I am truly grateful and would love to speak to anyone looking for hair or makeup artist.
