Planning the perfect proposal can be stressful, but sometimes simple is best! Pick the right place, and everything else will fall into line. When Matt reached out about surprising Ashley with a sunset proposal at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon (aka, my favorite place ever), I knew it was going to be amazing! If you’ve seen a sunset in Cannon Beach, you know it is other-worldly. That ocean breeze on your face. An array of colors lighting up the horizon. The sound of waves on the sand. Peaceful and stunning.

Ashley was completely surprised, and Matt had planned the proposal so that all her favorite people could be there as well. Having friends and family join after a proposal is a sure-fire way to an instant party! It gives so much energy to an already great event! And you get to show off your ring right away. Why do you think so many people plan holiday proposals? It’s so that all their friends and family are already there to celebrate! Good news, you can do this any time of year!

Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach is where I grew up going on vacation every spring break, and it’s where Nathan and I took our mini-moon the night of our wedding. There is something magical about the Oregon coast. Oregon coast proposals and weddings are some of my favorites. Planning an Oregon coast wedding is super easy too, because there are so many different locations to choose from!

For Ashley and Matt’s proposal, I knew I wanted these pictures to have an extra special touch to them. Even though it took work to photoshop out some of the people, it made the pictures that much more special. I know in the moment, it can feel like you’re the only ones around, and I wanted the pictures to reflect that! See for yourself!
