As you’ve probably read in my other blogs, Mother Nature is always a guest at PNW shoots. As a Seattle-based photographer, I’ve learned to embrace rain as part of our charm. But I totally understand couples wanting a backup plan, especially in the unpredictable late fall season. That’s exactly why Jacob’s proposal at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery was so perfect because it had both indoor and outdoor options.

When Jacob reached out, he knew he wanted something unique, romantic, and weatherproof. After exploring some options, he discovered that Chateau Ste Michelle offered the most charming indoor-outdoor “igloo” experiences. They’ve set up igloos around the grounds and you can do wine tasting and a charcuterie board undercover and in warmth during the colder months.
Chateau Ste Michelle Winery is one of those venues that immediately makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale. It’s nestled in Woodinville, just a short drive from Seattle, offering a dreamy landscape filled with lush gardens, vineyards, and beautiful architecture. Basically, it’s the perfect backdrop for a romantic proposal.
The Perfect Game Plan for a Surprise Proposal
Jacob and I made a plan that I would be casually photographing the grounds to start, set up near enough to their igloo I could see when they moved locations. Jacob and Emma enjoyed their cozy igloo date, sipping wine, and soaking in the ambiance. When they finally stepped outside for a “quick selfie break,” Jacob dropped down to one knee. Emma, completely caught off-guard, immediately said yes! Of course!
Planning your Proposal
I never want my couples to feel like they’re on their own when they reach out about a proposal. Yes, I’m mostly there to acpture the magic but I’m also a resource. Eventually, I left Jacob and Emma to continue their celebrations privately, soaking in the glow of their fresh engagement. I’m pretty confident this proposal secured their spot as “Best Date Night Ever,” and honestly, I was just honored to witness and document it.
