“The world was in black and white, but we were in screaming color.”
Austin and David’s wedding wasn’t just a celebration—it was a spectacle of love, joy, and electric energy. Seattle wedding venue, Block 41, transformed into a dreamscape where every detail felt deeply intentional, unapologetically bold, and unmistakably them.
Guests arrived in black and white, allowing Austin and David to be freaking amazing in their sequin, bold jackets. A larger-than-life mural (of their engagement shoot) greeted everyone at the entrance, a nod to their love story rooted in the Pacific Northwest, where they met and built a life together.
Block 41 Wedding Venue in Seattle
There are so many great wedding venues in the Seattle are. They range in style from rustic to whimsical to modern to boutique. You can see some of my favorites by visiting a blog I wrote about them here. Block 41 is a fun venue because it comes pretty blank so that you can make it exactly what you want! I’ve seen a soft romance done in the space, and now this killer party! Located near downtown, it features modern design, including a grand staircase up from the middle entry way to the upper floor. Lower floor can be used for cocktail hour while the space gets transformed from ceremony to reception.
An Unforgettable Ceremony
The above-mentioned staircase led 300+ guests into a ceremony space transformed for David and Austin. A circular layout wrapped around a chuppah suspended from the ceiling—a masterpiece designed by Austin himself with help from Bellevue Lighting. More than just a structure its LED lights shifted in color to create a cool and meaningful effect.
I’ve been to a lot of weddings, so I can confidently say that this ceremony felt different immediately. Instead of hushed whispers and soft instrumentals, the air buzzed with excitement as iconic gay anthems played, setting the tone straight away. Then, the grooms made their entrance—not with a quiet procession but with a round of group selfies, and some truly heartfelt hugs with their parents.
They made the whole ceremony their own, from the setup, to walking circles around each other, bending the Jewish tradition to work for them, to their vows (which definitely made me cry), to the confetti canon that burst as they stomped on their glass and shared a first kiss as husband and husband. I always feel lucky to share in people’s wedding days, but seeing my, and Nathan’s, friends get married, being chosen to document the event for them was truly special.
Cocktails, Color, and a Wardrobe Change
While the newlyweds zipped through Belltown on Lime scooters for some post-ceremony portraits (yes, really), guests made their way to cocktail hour. Signature drinks—The River Blue and The Jaxxy Sour—paid homage to their beloved cats, while cocktail napkins featured their dog’s face in gold foil. Beneath technicolor florals, a photo wall told the story of Austin and David’s journey, inviting guests to reminisce.
I love that we got this extra fun portrait time outside of their busy wedding day! David and Austin utilized the resource of the questionnaire I send all my couples to help me align with the plans of their day. It created a photo-based timeline that made sure to focus on their top priorities.
A Reception That Redefined the Rules
As guests re-entered the transformed reception space, the energy was wild. A mirror photo booth, lush greenery, and high-top tables with gold and silver linens—every detail exuded effortless sophistication. The wedding party made their grand entrance, bottle-service-style, waving flashing batons before Austin and David took the stage in custom-made sequin jackets—Austin in blue, David in purple.
Their first dance launched straight into the hora. The dance floor was never closed—from the beginning, this was a party meant to last all night.
Dinner? Think of less formal seating and a more interactive experience from Act 3 Catering. A rice bowl action station invited guests to create their own teriyaki bowls, with lounge seating scattered throughout the space. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, David’s mother baked 40 homemade pies (i’ll be over for Thanksgiving, thanks), served a la mode from an ice cream cart. Above them, roses cascaded from the ceiling from Flora Grand Productions, turning dessert into a work of art.
Then came one of the night’s most unforgettable moments—Austin’s dance with his mother. Unbeknownst to her, he had secretly recorded his version of Taylor Swift’s Long Live (“Austin’s Version”), singing it himself. As his voice filled the room, his sisters and father joined the dance floor, wrapping their new family in an embrace.
DJs, Dancing, and a Love That Lights Up the Room
If there was ever a wedding where the party never stopped, this was it. With a lineup of four DJs (including the grooms themselves—because why wouldn’t they DJ their wedding?), the dance floor pulsed with energy late into the night. From start to finish, the celebration never lost its rhythm. Not to mention the lighting by Crimson Haze and lasers by Slick Lasers absolutely enhanced the already lit dance floor.
Austin and David’s wedding was a masterclass in authenticity, joy, and pure, unfiltered love. Every moment—every burst of color, every note of music, every shared laugh—reflected who they are: vibrant, electric, and completely unforgettable.
