My formula for wedding day photos: - PLANNING: I A My formula for wedding day photos:
-
PLANNING: I ALWAYS create a photo-based timeline and fuse in buffers for the “just in case.” I focus on the top priorities of the couple + connect with the coordinator to make sure we’re all on the same page.
-
SAY HELLO: I pop my head in to one of the getting ready rooms. It takes time for everyone to get used to a human with the big fancy camera, so this eases them into it before I start taking any photos.
-
DETAILS: For a flat lay, I start with all the details available to me then break it down into smaller categories. If I have time, I like to play and do something funky/different with light, texture, or color.
-
CEREMONIES: I start up front and pivot at my hips a few times to get the “first look” reaction. I then make my way to the back and pivot side to side while the officiant is speaking and also during vows. (If there’s no room along the outskirts, I stay center aisle. I do NOT cross in front of the front row.) I am then center aisle when rings are exchanged (typically side-by-side with the videographer), the kiss, and pronouncement. I walk backwards and remind the couple to kiss again at the end of the aisle.
-
FAMILY PHOTOS: I ALWAYS have a list. This is not a time to “wing it.” I write them with the couple 2 months prior so everyone a part of these knows to stay nearby, parents can sign off of it beforehand, and the couple doesn’t have to stress over the different variations they may or may not want. Divorced parents, blended families? No problem. I write it in a way that I can quickly add people in and take people out. In a flash, we’re already done with the most stressful part of any wedding day.
-
PORTRAITS: This is discussed prior to the day. Setting expectations is key. A first look is great but not required. I’ve learned to do a lot of variety in a short amount of time. Sometimes that’s all I get. 5mins for sunset photos? Let’s go make the most of it, then get you back to your people.
-
CANDID MOMENTS: Wind causing veil drama? A kid being cute? Grandma out on the dance floor? A quick moment that might go unnoticed through the chaos of a wedding day is EXACTLY why I’m there. 🤗
As a wedding photographer, it’s important to be As a wedding photographer, it’s important to be on the same page with your couples.

My inquiry form is changes over time. I’ve had it long with fun Q’s, or short and get-to-the-point. This is what I’ve had it set to the last 6 months and I’ve found it helps me align with my potential couples when they inquire!
-
PRONOUNS: I am an ally for the LGBTQIA community and this is just one way I show my support. I share my pronouns on my website and I ask for my potential couples to share theirs on the contact form.
-
DATE: I need to make sure the venue is booked and the date is set before I sign a contract on my end or take anyone’s money, haha. It’s important to know if I’m personally available or if an associate is.
-
LOCATION: As a photographer based in Seattle, WA but serves all along the West Coast (and around the world) I want to make sure I’m providing accurate quotes to include any potential travel costs or set up my locally based associate.
-
METHOD OF COMMUNICATION: I’m all about meeting my clients where they’re at! If they want to hop on a phone call, or just want details sent to their inbox, I’m good either way!
-
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO MY WORK: A particular post they stumbled on and loved? My overall editing or posing style? A recommendation from a friend? What can I help duplicate/emphasize for them?
-
HOW CAN I SERVE YOU?: This gives the opportunity to discuss more details and describe their celebration and desired coverage time.
-
WHAT MATTERS MOST?: This helps me make sure I understand their priorities. Is it all about the details, the people, the vibe? What do they want to FEEL (cool, calm and collected? Feeling incredibly taken care of by their vendor team? Let go of all the stress and dance the night away with their people? All of the above?? YOU’VE GOT IT.)
-
YOUR TURN!!
-
Couples: What do you think of these Q’s? Am I missing anything for that initial form of contact?
-
Wedding professionals: What do you have on your contact form that you love?

It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself! 🤗
-
💛 I wouldn’t be me without:
-
These two cuties right here, my husband Nathan and my doggo Daisy.
-
The place where this photo was taken. My favorite place in the world, Cannon Beach.
-
My hyper fixation on the next craft or house project (lol)
-
My desire to genuinely connect with humans.
-
My job that allows me to document some of the most important memories and milestones through the art of photography.
-
I also wouldn’t be me without my phone (lol)
-
The pop punk bands that got me through my adolescent years (and my day to day life now)
-
💛 The things I’m still working on:
-
Being a better friend to my friends.
-
Finding a better balance between work and my day to day. As much as I love my job, it’s not all I am.
-
Finding patience and peace in the midst of chaos and the unknown.
-
Being more conscious of goal setting and mindfulness.
-
🤗💛 Your turn! What are some things that make you “you”? What are you working on in this season?
