Let me just say this… I definitely wouldn’t mind spending endless amounts of weekends as the primary WithinSodo wedding photographer. I freaking love this venue.
WithinSodo is a local industrial wedding venue tucked inside Sodo, just outside of downtown Seattle. They held an open house this past January featuring 13 local vendors. I love collaborating with other vendors on styled shoots, especially when we can open the flood gates and all get the chance to showcase our talents. I also love open houses such as these, because after the shoot, we got to welcome engaged couples into the space. As they walked through and got to personally connect with all the vendors involved, we were in turn showing them how we chose to utilize the space and hopefully showing them what their wedding could potentially look like in this venue. The versatility of WithinSodo is unlike other venues I’ve seen in the area and I’m kinda obsessed.
The gorgeous rhinestone gown by Willowby was worn by Par, who literally was glowing in the sunlight on the rooftop of the venue. As always, when selecting couples for my styled shoots, I prefer to NOT work with models at all, to keep posing and interactions organic and as real as possible.
Par and John are a real couple who joined the team to “model” for us for this shoot, but really it was just a fun and unique date night for them to get all dressed up and pretend to get married. I love providing a great experience for the couple, even if it’s not their real wedding day.
A quick encouragement: Your wedding day can be whatever you want it to be. When it comes to decor elements, you can create a beautiful design based on an overall “vibe” and what really speaks to you. For this elopement styled shoot, we decided to create a celestial wedding celebration at WithinSodo.
An up-and-coming florist I found on Instagram, Brett James, did a fantastic floral installation for the ceremony altar. He paired together flowers that I personally have never seen blended together before. Using soft candlelight and tying together the design throughout the space, he took the moody and romantic vibes into the dinning room. The centerpiece of our sweetheart table was filled with natural elements like moss covered branches that stopped me in my tracks. I love when the design gets a little witchy and this star and moon concept styled shoot was the perfect place to do this.
The concept of the celestial shoot was beautifully tied together with our desserts, created by Alpenglow Baking Company. The night sky design for the cake was out of this world. A dark cake like this is such a bold choice that I absolutely would love to see at more weddings.
This styled elopement has been featured on Apple Brides Magazine.
I’m so grateful for all of the vendors who came together to make this shoot happen:
