  1. VA Tip of the Week: How to Increase Your Influence in Klout

    April 26, 2012 by tminspired

We’re two weeks into my series on Klout, and have given you the Basics that you need to know when starting an account. Now, it’s time that we getting a little more advanced. :)

The importance of your Klout Score

Some people on Twitter don’t follow users that have a Klout score less than 30 or 40. (The higher the number they have, the better quality of connection you’ll have with the person.)
Reminder: Klout is the overall judgement to your Social Media “mark.”

How to increase your Klout influence and your overall Klout Score

    1.  Prove your influence: Post about things that will interest others and start a conversation. Keep it short so they can include a reply in their RT.
    2.  Start conversations by using @replies (mentions) instead of private messages.
    3.  Share with others and you may receive. Retweet to share other tweets. If it’s a good tweet or a great quote, you might receive further RT’s from it. :)
    4.  Make sure all of your followers know about your other networks. Tell your Facebook fans to follow you on Twitter, tell your Linked In connections to join you on Facebook. Remind people on Twitter to find you on Facebook, ect. The more ways you connect with each follower, the more opportunities you have to engage with that follower.
    5.  Let others know that they’ve influenced you! How? By adding them as an influencer directly on Klout.

How to add someone as a influencer on your Klout account

This is really simple once you’ve done it a couple of times. And there are also two ways to do this, so you get to choose. :)
    * You can see my awesome influencers here: http://klout.com/#/TMinspired/influencers/2

    The first way:
If the person is on your profile, you can hover over their profile image and click the “Add Influencer” button that pops up.

    The second way:
You can simply view your “Influencers” on your account, and click the “Add” button. From here, you can type in the name of who you’d like to add, and officially “Add” them as an influencer! :)
This is great for a specific person you’re looking for, as well as adding multiple people in one sitting.

    Final tip for this week
Always Remember: Klout + more engagement + interaction = more influence.

  2. VA Tip of the Week: 10 Tips for Klout Topics

    April 19, 2012 by tminspired

Last week, I started a new series on Klout. In my last post, “What Is Klout?” I gave you the basics about Klout. This week, I’m taking it one step further for you, by breaking down Klout topics in 10, easy to follow steps. (5 to set them up, and 5 more to help you use and promote them!)

How do you add your own topics to your Klout Account?  Klout has the ability to automatically add topics to your account. This means that you are influential in this topic to your readers and across Klout. For 5 K’s, you can now add your own topic! Here’s how: (See image below for reference)
    1.  Click the “topics” button on the right hand toolbar of your Klout account.
    2.  Click the blue button on the right that says “add a topic”
    3.  Type in the topic that you would like to add. (Some aren’t supported yet, but most are!) I already had “Blogging” added to my account, so I officially added “Crafts,” to show you the pop up window. :)
    4.  Click “add” and choose whether or not to share it with your networks!

    5.  How do I remove a topic Klout gave me?  It’s really okay if you have random topics. The humorous side of Klout users will +K you for them because they are less “serious.” (I fall into the category.) But if you would like to remove a topic, you just simply click the “x” that is next to the bolded topic name, confirm it, and bam – removed!

I added this in my last post, but here is a quick snapshot of my personal topics. You can see all of mine by going here: http://klout.com/#/TMinspired/topics By the way, I’m a big fan of +K’s! :)

How do I get +K’s on my topics?  Here are a few ways to boost your Klout topics:
    1.
The biggest way to do this is to +K others! You can also ask for it through your Social Media networks, (by clicking the “share” button under one of the topic names) and hope that someone will… But the best way to receive a +K is to give them!
    2.  Look for others who are popular in the topic YOU are influential in. The people you see with the “highest” ranking in +K’s USUALLY are very active on Klout. +K them in that topic, or a few of their topics, and they will most likely return the favor.
    3.  Treat others as you wish to be treated. If you don’t want to be spammed with +K’s or tweets about people +K’ing you, DON’T do it to them! No one likes a spammer. But some posts here and there are nice to share. :)
    4.  Always +K those who +K you! If you view your topics, you will notice the +K’s you’ve received. If you click one of the photos, it will take you to their profiles where you can return the favor by +K’ing them in their topics!
    5.  Last but not least, don’t ONLY go after what is popular. When you’re viewing a profile to +K, always view ALL of their topics. Don’t click one of the most popular ones that are already “high” rankings. Show them that you took a little extra time to +K them by adding it to one of the lowest topics, maybe one that they just recently added. It will be appreciated!

  3. VA Tip of the Week: What is Klout?

    April 17, 2012 by tminspired

Have you heard of Klout?  Klout is a network that puts all of your Social Media influence in one place, which places you with a number, 1-100. The higher the number, the more influential you are to your followers.

Here are the basics on how to bump up your Klout score, directly from their main website, http://Klout.com: The Klout Score measures influence based on your ability to drive action. Every time you create content or engage you influence others. The Klout Score uses data from social networks in order to measure:

    • True Reach:  How many people you influence
Klout filters out spam and bots and focus on the people who are acting on your content. When you post a message, these people tend to respond or share it.
    • Amplification: How much you influence them
When you post a message, how many people respond to it or spread it further? If people often act upon your content you have a high Amplification score.
    • Network Impact:  The influence of your network (in your True Reach)
How often do top Influencers share and respond to your content? When they do so, they are increasing your Network/Klout score.

Still have questions? Here is some more information you should have before signing up for an account.

How do I sign up?  I love how simple they make it – all you need to do is go to http://Klout.com and sign in through either your Twitter or Facebook account. No need to remember an extra username or password. It’s already hooked up to one of your accounts!

What kinds of Social Media accounts can you add to your Klout profile?  Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, G+ and WordPress are the most popular. But also available are: Foursquare, Youtube, Instagram, Tumblr, Blogger, Last.fm, and Flickr.
    * They are currently working on adding more networks to this list.

How do you add new networks?  As you are building your profile, you just simply click on the icon you wish to add, provide your log in information, and authorize it. It walks you through the whole thing and it’s very simple!

What are the benefits of adding all of my networks?  The more networks you hook up to your account, the more accurately Klout can measure your influence. Receive credit for the impact of your network by adding the networks you have.

Should I sign up for all of the available networks?  If you don’t have them already, you probably won’t use them regularly. If you don’t use them regularly, it won’t impact your score very much. I say, stick to the accounts you are on frequently, and focus on your influence there!

What are +K’s?  You can think of this as a “thumbs up” or kudos, in a sense. Giving someone a +K lets them know that they recently influenced you in that topic. Receiving one lets you know that you influenced them.

How do I give +K’s?  Here are 5 quick steps to understanding how to give +K’s:
    1.  To search for the person, you can type in the name or username of the person you are looking for in the top toolbar.
    2.  View the “see all” section of their topics to view what topic you’d like to +K them on.
    3.  Simply click the +K button next to the topic. You also have the option of tweeting or sharing this on Facebook.
    4.  Once you’ve maxed out your 10 +K’s available, you’ll need to either, (a) wait for someone to +K you back, or (b) wait until the next day. (My suggestion is to wait. No need to go crazy!)
    5.  Whether you give out K’s or not, it currently doesn’t affect your Klout score. This is mainly for those looking to gain some more recognition and new followers through the use of topics and a new way of networking.

So what exactly are topics?  Klout automatically detects what action you receive on the topics you post about, and will add in topics for you. This means that you are influential in this topic to your readers and across Klout. People can then +K these topics to make you in a higher rank of being the biggest influencer of that topic.
    * If you are a “low” influencer in the topic, it will soon disappear on it’s own from the list.
    * For 5 K’s, you can now add your own topic!

Here is a quick snapshot of my personal topics. You can see all of mine by going here: http://klout.com/#/TMinspired/topics

  4. VA Tip of the Week: What is Instagram?

    April 7, 2012 by tminspired

I wasn’t able to post my VA tip last week, I’ll be playing catch up so that I won’t technically miss a post! Thanks for your patience. :)

In this post I’m talking about Instagram. Heard of it? You will! It’s one of the hottest iPhone exclusive app has made it’s way to Android! If you didn’t know about this app before, you will – it’s incredibly popular. (1 million downloads of the app in just 24 hours after being released on the Android market!)

Here are a few bullet points to help you understand Instagram a little more:

    • Instagram is an app that is similar to Twitter, but with photos. The app takes photos, adds an “indie” filter, and shares your now hipster/indie photo with your friends across Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and Tumblr. You can “follow” your friends and they can follow you. Your “followers” can then like and comment on your photos by either looking at your profile, or on their main newsfeed.

    • The app gives you the ability to search for your friends through your social networks and contact list in your phone. This makes it easy to find who you’re looking for.

    • You can even see what is currently popular by clicking the “star” button on the app’s bottom toolbar.

    • There is no pressure to actively post. It won’t bump down your Klout Score if you take a break. People won’t notice if you suddenly stop posting for a week or two. (Unless you have stalkers) They’re not going to suddenly unfollow you. You can remain just as popular if you post quality photos that people DO want to see!

    • Here is a quick video that will show you the differences between Andriod and iPhone (as of right now – I know things will be changing all the time!) as well as how to use the filters and post, ect. Instagram for Android hands-on video.

    • Download the official app for your iPhone or Android today at the official website: Instagr.am! Oh, and follow me on Instagram via TMinspired. :)
