Ashley and Daniel met overseas in Chile. Ashley recently moved back home to Columbus, Ohio, and Daniel came to visit her. This just so happened to be the same time I was in town to photograph a wedding. (YAY! More on that soon.) His first day back in town, we did a couples session at a waterfall in Ohio. (Who knew there was a waterfall near Columbus? I sure didn’t!) It was a beautiful, sunny day, and the water felt really refreshing, so we didn’t mind when it would spray us a bit. It was a great way for them to spend time together after being a part for months.
No matter where I am with my clients, I always try to make it feel like a date night. As the professional third wheel, I focus on creating moments that generate genuine smiles. I pose them so they can talk and giggle, and also be still with each other and softly sway in each others arms, slow dancing to the beat of their heartbeats, breathing in each moment – together.
Ashley and Daniel, thanks for allowing me to third-wheel-it on your first day being reunited. I’m so thankful to have had the chance to photograph your sweet adoration for one another. Wishing you many, many years of happiness and love.
* This couples session actually doubled as a mentoring session, too. I brought along a wonderful photographer, Kaylee of KayK Photography, who is based in Tennessee. As we photographed side by side, I was able to teach her some tips and tricks that I’ve learned over the years. Then we went to a local Starbucks to debrief and talk about social media and post-processing. I loved getting to know this girl more, and it was so fun having her by my side during this couples session. :) If you’re interested in a mentoring session, all you need to do is shoot me an email. I’d love to get together!
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” – John Lubbock
